Trifolium repens ‘Atropurpureum’ is a distinctive ornamental form of white clover grown primarily for its striking dark purple foliage. The creeping mats of richly coloured leaves create a dramatic ground cover, beautifully offsetting neighbouring plants and adding depth to mixed plantings.

Small white clover flowers appear through summer, hovering above the foliage and attracting pollinating insects. Low-growing and spreading, this unusual perennial works well at the front of borders, in gravel gardens, or allowed to weave naturally between other plants where its deep colouring provides an effective contrast.

  Pairs well with other perennials
